What is open and what closes during Holy Week in Cartagena?
Restaurants and beach clubs open, but on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday some places restrict alcohol sales, and the walled city fills with processions that close streets for hours. Boats sail as normal unless the harbour master says otherwise. Book tables weeks ahead: over those four days the city runs at capacity.
Is Holy Week more expensive than New Year?
It is usually a little cheaper than the week of 31 December, and clearly more expensive than an ordinary April. The real difference is the minimum stay: at Holy Week many houses ask for four or five nights, so the total climbs even when the nightly rate is similar. For 2027, put it together between November and January.
Can you go to the islands during Holy Week?
Yes, and for those days it is the better call: the city is packed, and the Rosario Islands or Cholon on a private boat let you leave early and come back when the group wants.
