When do you have to book New Year in Cartagena?
Good houses in the walled city and Getsemani for ten or more guests are taken between June and September for the week of 28 December to 2 January. By October little is left, and what is left costs more. Boats for the 31st sell out before the houses do, because many groups want to be in the bay at midnight and the fleet is small.
What does New Year's Eve in Cartagena cost for a group?
Three line items carry the budget: the house, the boat and the dinner. A colonial house is billed per house, not per person, from 600 USD a night for sixteen, and at New Year almost all of them require a three to five night minimum. A boat on the 31st runs 850 to 3,800 USD for the day by length. The New Year's Eve dinner with a private chef is quoted per service, with the market shop at cost and the receipt attached.
Is it worth being on a boat at midnight?
It depends on the group. From the bay you see the fireworks off the walls and off Bocagrande at the same time and nobody fights for a spot in the street, but you eat earlier, and the boat has to sail with that day's zarpe filed. If the group wants to dance until five, a house with a chef and a club afterwards works better.
