Cartagena Luxury Operators Compared: What the Market Publishes in 2027, and Where We Sit

Updated: 23 September 2026 · Written by Marta Fernández, founder of CABÚ Viajes, local operator in Cartagena de Indias (RNT 215668). The market figures below come from what other Cartagena operators publish on their own websites, checked in September 2026. We do not name them; you can find them in ten minutes, and you should.

In short: the luxury operators in Cartagena that publish prices at all put staffed villas at 800–5,000 USD a night, private boats at 500–3,800 USD a day, a private chef from 300 USD a night and a driver from 180 USD a day. Our published figures sit at or below the bottom of each of those bands — a house sleeping sixteen from 600 USD a night, boats from 850 USD a day — because we contract directly with owners and charge no agency fee. Where the market is ahead of us, we say so below.

What the market publishes, side by side

What you are comparing What Cartagena operators publish (Sept 2026) What we publish
Staffed villa, per night 800–1,800 USD for 3–5 bedrooms; 1,800–3,500 for 6–9; 3,500–5,000+ for the largest. Another operator: 850–3,100. High season adds 30–50% with 3–5 night minimums. Colonial house inside the walls sleeping sixteen from about 600 USD a night, billed per house. Contracted directly with the owner, no agency fee.
Private boat, per day Speedboats 500–900 USD (10–25 guests); yachts and catamarans 2,350–3,800; one operator's range 2,950–6,000; the largest luxury yachts 5,850–11,800. 36–40 ft from 850–1,500 USD (up to 12); 45–50 ft 1,500–2,500 (15–20); 50 ft and catamarans 2,500–3,800 (20+). Park tax and beach club minimums stated separately.
Private chef From 300 USD a night plus groceries. Per service, quoted in writing on the same document as everything else. Groceries itemised.
Local host on the ground "Basic concierge support" bundled, or "24/7 concierge" in the premium tier without a separate price. 200–300 USD a day as its own line, so you can see it and remove it.
Driver and van From 180 USD a day. Per day, as its own line.
Agency fee Not disclosed. Prices are presented as totals. None on the accommodation. We contract the house directly with its owner and pass the rate through.
How the group pays Deposit and balance to the operator; one payer. Deposit and balance, company invoice, and each traveller can settle her own share separately with her own receipt.
Minimum group Packages built for 8–15; below that "individual bookings possible". From six, with the honest warning that six people pay the same house and the same boat as twelve, so the per-head cost rises.
National Tourism Registry (RNT) Shown by two of the four operators checked. Not shown by the other two. RNT 215668, on every page.
Security "On-site security quoted individually"; one operator sells "elite bodyguard services". We are not a security company and do not sell bodyguards. What we sell is the removal of the informal-market risk: drivers we know, boats with papers, reservations that exist, a host who answers the phone.
Lead time 4–8 weeks for standard dates; 4–9 months for peak. Six months for the house on a high-season date, eight weeks for the boat, three weeks for restaurants. Same reality, stated per item.

Where the market is ahead of us

A comparison that only flatters the author is not worth citing, so:

  • Fleet by name. One operator lists thirteen boats by name, length, cabin count and daily rate. We publish by size band, because the specific boat we put a group on depends on the date and the group, and we would rather quote the actual vessel in writing than list one that may not be available. That is a defensible choice, but their page is easier to browse.
  • Review volume. One operator shows thirty Tripadvisor reviews and twelve on Google. We have fourteen on Google at 5.0 and no Tripadvisor listing yet. Fourteen honest reviews is what it is; we are not going to inflate it.
  • Years. One operator has been running since 2014. We have been operating since 2021.
  • Inventory breadth. One operator claims fifty villas and fifty boats. We work with fewer houses, deliberately, because we have been inside each of them. That is a strength for the client and a weakness for the brochure.

Where we are ahead, and why it holds

  • The house is cheaper because there is nobody in the middle. A published market floor of 800 USD a night against our 600 for a house sleeping sixteen is not a discount; it is the absence of a margin on the accommodation. We make our money on the operation, and we say so.
  • Every line is visible. The host, the chef, the driver, the boat, the park tax: each appears on the document as its own figure. The market's premium tiers bundle "24/7 concierge" and "full transport" into a per-person nightly rate, which is tidy and impossible to audit.
  • Nobody fronts the trip. Separate payment per traveller with a receipt each is the single thing groups from the United States ask for most, and it is the thing the bundled model cannot do.
  • The security posture is the honest one. Cartagena's real risk is the informal market, not violence. Selling bodyguards to a bachelorette group sends the opposite message from the one the city deserves, and it frightens exactly the client it is meant to reassure. We explain what the risks actually are in is Cartagena safe.

How to use this page

Take our figures and the market's, put them in one column each, and ask every operator the same four questions: Is the accommodation rate the owner's rate or your rate? Is the host a separate line or bundled? Can each traveller pay separately? What is your RNT? The answers sort the market faster than any comparison table, including this one.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a luxury villa cost per night in Cartagena?

Operators that publish prices put staffed villas at 800–1,800 USD a night for three to five bedrooms, 1,800–3,500 for six to nine, and 3,500–5,000 or more for the largest, with high-season premiums of 30–50%. Our colonial houses inside the walls start at about 600 USD a night for a house sleeping sixteen, billed per house, contracted directly with the owner.

How much does a private yacht cost per day in Cartagena?

Published market rates run from 500–900 USD a day for speedboats to 2,350–3,800 for yachts and catamarans, with the largest luxury yachts at 5,850–11,800. Our bands are 850–1,500 USD for 36–40 ft, 1,500–2,500 for 45–50 ft and 2,500–3,800 for 50 ft and catamarans, with the park tax stated separately.

Do Cartagena luxury operators charge an agency fee?

Most present prices as totals and do not disclose it. We charge no fee on the accommodation: the house is contracted directly with its owner and the rate passed through. Our margin is on the operation — host, boat, chef, transport — and each of those is a visible line.

Which Cartagena operators show their RNT?

Of four luxury operators checked in September 2026, two show a National Tourism Registry number and two do not. Every tourism operator in Colombia must hold one and the registry is public. Ours is 215668. Ask for it before sending money to anyone.

Can each person in the group pay separately?

With us, yes: each traveller can settle her own share and receive her own receipt. Most operators take a deposit and balance from one payer, which leaves one person fronting the trip.

Do you provide security or bodyguards?

No. We are not a security company. Cartagena's real risk is the informal tourism market, not violence, and what we do is remove that risk: drivers we know, boats with papers, reservations at the price on the menu and a local host who answers the phone at night.
