Christmas and New Year's Eve 2026 in Cartagena: Private Villa, a Yacht at Midnight, and What Is Still Bookable

In short: the luxury version of New Year's Eve in Cartagena is a private colonial house inside the walls with a chef, and a boat on the bay at midnight for the fireworks. It is the most demanded fortnight of the year: the houses that sleep twelve or more are contracted in September and October, the good boats by late October, and the gala tables inside the walls a month out. If you are reading this in October, there is still a version of the week available — it is just not the one with the house you saw in July.

What sells out, and when
It is simple arithmetic. There are only so many colonial houses inside the walls and in Getsemaní that sleep twelve or more, and every group — Colombian, Mexican, American — wants the same two weeks. The rest of the year a group can decide six to eight weeks out; for the 24th and the 31st, the serious groups contract the house in September or October. The market says the same thing about boats: yacht reservations for New Year open in the summer and most are gone by the end of October.
- Now (September–October): the house. It is the piece that runs out and it defines everything else. Deposit and company invoice.
- Soon (October–November): the boat for the island day and for midnight on the 31st; the Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve table if you want a restaurant rather than the house.
- Later (November–December): club tables, the chef for the other nights, transport, the details.
What it costs, honestly
December is the most expensive month of the year in Cartagena. The reference ranges we publish — a house sleeping sixteen from about 600 USD a night, boats from 850 to 3,800 USD a day, a local host at 200–300 USD a day — are the base. Between 20 December and 5 January houses and boats quote above those ranges, and availability matters more than negotiation. We will not print a December number here that we cannot hold; we quote it in writing, for the actual house and the actual boat, once we know your dates.
The rule that does hold: everything here is billed per unit, not per person. The house, the boat and the van cost the same for eight as for sixteen, so a larger group remains the best weapon against seasonal pricing. And each traveller can settle her own share separately, with her own receipt, which for a New Year group matters more than any discount.
What the market sells for New Year, and what we sell
The New Year pages of other Cartagena operators sell VIP tickets — gala dinners, invitation-only parties, open bars — and they are good at it. We can arrange those tables too. But the thing that makes or breaks the week is not the ticket; it is the house you wake up in and the boat you are on at midnight, and neither of those is a ticket you can buy in November. That is what we contract first, directly with the owners, with papers, and that is why we push the house so hard in September.
The other honest difference: we are not a security company and we do not sell bodyguards for New Year. Getting here for the holidays
Direct flights from Miami, Fort Lauderdale and New York; from Mexico City, one direct a day on three days of the week, which fills in December — book flights as soon as the house is held. No visa for US or Mexican citizens; passports with six months of validity. Christmas week and New Year week are both about three hours from Miami, which is why so many Florida groups do this rather than the Caribbean islands.

- New Year only, four nights. Arrive 29 December, boat day on the 30th, house dinner and rooftop or gala on the 31st, recovery on the islands on the 1st, out on the 2nd. The most-booked version from the United States.
- The week after. Arrive 2 January when the city exhales, the houses are cheaper and the water is empty. For groups who want the season without the crowd.
