New Year in Cartagena 2027: The Festivals, the House and How It Works

In short: the Cartagena party week is not New Year's Eve itself — it is the first ten days of January, when the beach electronic festivals run. Buena Vida Beach CTG is confirmed for 8–10 January 2027 at Punta Canoa, tickets already on sale. Grata X Baum, the one produced with Páramo Presenta at Fénix Beach on Tierra Bomba island, has historically run 2–4 January; the 2027 edition has not been announced yet. If you are coming from the US for this, the thing that runs out first is not the ticket — it is the house.

Grata X Baum — the Páramo one, 2027 not yet announced

Produced by Baum Bogotá, Firma Presenta and Páramo Presenta — the same house behind Festival Estéreo Picnic — and held at Fénix Beach on Tierra Bomba island, a boat ride from the city. Previous editions have run 2, 3 and 4 January with headliners of the Solomun and Adriatique level. El Tiempo has described it as one of the biggest electronic parties in Colombia.

The 2027 edition has not been confirmed publicly at the time of writing. If your trip depends on it, plan the week so that it works either way — which, conveniently, is also the smart way to plan it.

Why the house is the thing that actually runs out

Here is the part nobody tells US groups. Festival tickets are a commodity: they exist until they sell out and you can usually buy them late. Accommodation between 28 December and 11 January is the scarcest inventory of the entire year in Cartagena, and large houses in the Walled City are the scarcest part of it.

Two things compound in that window: it is Colombian domestic high season — the whole country travels the first week of January — and it is the peak of international arrivals. A group of twelve looking for one house in December is looking at a market that was picked over in September.

The order that works for this specific week: house first, boat second, festival tickets third, flights fourth. That is different from the rest of the year only in how early it has to start.

What full management actually covers

"Concierge" is a word that gets used for a WhatsApp group and for a full operation, so here is the specific version of what a managed festival week in Cartagena involves:

• The house. Named property, bedroom and bed count, the zone, and a walkthrough of what it actually is rather than a category.
• Staff in it. Private chef by service, housekeeping, and someone who answers when the water heater doesn't.
• Ground transport. Airport in and out as one booking, plus the moves between the house, the marina and the festival sites. Punta Canoa is half an hour out; Tierra Bomba is a boat.
• The boat day. A named boat, the destination spelled out — Rosario, Cholón and Bahía de los Vázquez are three different days — and hours.
• Festival logistics. Getting the group in and out at the right hours, which on Tierra Bomba means boat timings, not car timings.
• Restaurants and the night that isn't a festival. The Walled City books out for this week months ahead.
• One local number that answers during the trip, not only before it.

What it does not cover, and shouldn't pretend to: festival tickets are bought from the festival. Any operator who tells you they have guaranteed access to a lineup that hasn't been announced is selling you something they don't have.

The one warning that matters in this window

The US State Department's current Colombia advisory contains a specific caution about small tourist boats off the northern coast between Cartagena and the nearby islands, and it flags December and January as the heightened period. That is not an abstract note: the trade winds pick up on this coast in exactly those weeks, the sea gets rough, and the maritime authority closes the port when conditions turn.

For a festival week this is concrete, because two of the things you might be doing — the boat day and getting to Tierra Bomba — are on the water.

What to ask before you pay for anything that floats: the boat's name, length and year; whether there are life jackets for every passenger and a radio aboard; and in writing, what happens if the port closes on your date. If a captain says the sea is bad, the day is cancelled — and any operator who pressures a captain to go anyway is the wrong operator.

How the money works, honestly

Two categories, and confusing them is what makes quotes look arbitrary:

Fixed for the group	House, boat, ground transport, chef, coordination — the same cost with ten people as with fourteen
Per person	Festival tickets, meals, drinks, individual activities

Which is why a per-person price quoted before anyone asks how many of you there are is not a price, it is a guess. It also means the per-person figure drops sharply between eight and fourteen people, and that this specific week is the most expensive of the year in the fixed half.

How to check whoever you book with

Every legitimate tourism provider in Colombia must be registered in the Registro Nacional de Turismo and keep it active. Ask for the RNT number, look it up on the official portal, and confirm three things: that it exists, that it is active, and that the name matches whoever invoices you.
