It's the decision every Mexican group makes first. The short answer: if you're fewer than 8 people and want to spend little on the flight, Cancún. If you're 10 or more and want a full house, a private yacht and a city you can walk, Cartagena. When Cartagena works out cheaper

The break-even point is around 10 people. The reason is arithmetic: in Cartagena the house, the yacht and the van are charged per unit and split among the group, while at an all-inclusive you pay per head. From 10 people on, the pricier flight is offset by the lower cost on the ground, and from 15 on the difference clearly favors Cartagena.

When we DON'T recommend Cartagena

Groups of fewer than 8. You don't get the full benefit of the whole house or the private yacht, and the flight weighs too much on the budget.
A two-night weekend. With the round-trip flight you lose almost half the trip. Cartagena calls for four days.
If anyone in the group doesn't have a valid passport. Getting one takes time, and without it there's no trip.
If you're looking for an all-inclusive resort with a wristband. Cartagena is a city, not a hotel zone.

No visa needed. Mexicans enter Colombia visa-free for up to 90 days. And the Check-Mig is no longer required: Migración Colombia stopped asking for it to enter or leave the country. It's still available and free, but filling it out is optional. What you do need is a passport valid for 6 months with 2 blank pages.

Cartagena or Los Cabos for a bachelor party?

Los Cabos is the priciest of the three on the ground and the sea is colder and choppier, though the flight is short. Cartagena offers warm, calm water, full houses inside the city and lower ground costs per person in large groups. For groups of 10 or more, Cartagena usually wins on cost and on the plan.
