Cartagena Milestone Birthday Trip 2027: 40th, 50th and 60th with a Private House, Boat and Chef

In short: a 40th, 50th or 60th birthday in Cartagena for eight to twenty people works best as a colonial house inside the walls or in Getsemaní (from about 600 USD a night sleeping sixteen, billed per house), one private boat day to the Rosario Islands (850–3,800 USD per boat depending on size), a chef in the house on the night itself, and a local host at 200–300 USD a day who runs the days so the host of the party does not have to. Why Cartagena for a milestone birthday
Three reasons, and they are practical rather than romantic. First, the walled city and the Caribbean are ten minutes apart, so one trip gives the guests a city night and a boat day without moving hotels. Second, a whole colonial house with a courtyard, a rooftop and staff costs what two or three good hotel suites would cost elsewhere, which is what makes a private dinner for sixteen affordable. Third, from Miami, New York, Houston, Mexico City and Cancún the flights are direct or one stop, so guests can come for a long weekend. What a 40th or 50th in Cartagena actually costs
These are the figures we publish and hold, in USD, for a standard date. December and the January holiday weeks sit above them and we quote the actual house in writing rather than print a number we cannot keep.

Worked example, sixteen guests, three nights, one boat day on a 45–50 ft vessel, host for three days: house 1,800 + boat about 2,000 + host about 750 = roughly 4,550 USD before the chef, dinners and park fee, or about 285 USD per guest for the house, the boat and the host. How the weekend is usually built
- Thursday or Friday, arrival. Guests are met at the airport and driven to the house. Welcome dinner on the rooftop or at a restaurant inside the walls, booked at menu price. The host walks everyone through the house and the plan.
- The boat day. One private boat from the marina, ten minutes from the walled city, to the Rosario Islands or Cholón, with lunch on an island. Back before sunset so the birthday night starts rested.
- The birthday night. Chef in the house, long table in the courtyard or on the roof, a DJ or a live vallenato trio if you want one, and a rooftop or club table afterwards for those who continue. Nobody is looking for a taxi at one in the morning.

What we check before we put a house in front of you
A milestone birthday is the trip where the house has to work, because the party happens inside it. Before we quote one we have been in it: water pressure and air conditioning in every room, which beds are real beds and which are sofas in the listing, what the street sounds like at one in the morning, whether a vehicle reaches the door or the luggage is carried the last hundred metres, and who actually holds the keys and answers the phone on the night. Three things we say plainly
- In Cartagena "yacht" almost always means a 36–48 ft launch. A real yacht with crew exists and costs what the top band says. If someone offers a luxury yacht for twenty people at 600 USD for the day, it is not a yacht. What to check on any boat before paying is in Cartagena yacht charter.
- We are not a security company. We do not sell bodyguards or armoured cars. The real risk in Cartagena is the informal market: the unlicensed boat, the taxi that reroutes, the club that charges what it likes at the door. When to book a 2027 birthday
The good houses inside the walls for a specific weekend go three to five months out for ordinary dates, and for the December to April dry season and any long weekend in the United States or Mexico, earlier. Yes. Deposit and balance against a company invoice, split across as many payers as you like, and each guest receives her own receipt. The person hosting the birthday does not have to front the group.
Can you organise a chef and a party in the house?
Yes. The chef is charged per service with the market shop at cost, and music, a bar and staff for the night are separate lines. The house has to be one where a party at midnight is allowed and does not disturb the street, which is one of the things we check before quoting it.

Is Cartagena safe for a group celebrating a birthday?
Yes, with the same discipline as any Caribbean city: licensed boats, known drivers, reservations that exist and a host who answers the phone. We are not a security company and do not sell escorts; what we remove is the informal market, which is where the problems come from.
How far ahead should we book a 2027 birthday?
Three to five months for an ordinary weekend; more for December to April, for US and Mexican long weekends and for any date where a specific house matters. December 2026 birthdays have their own, shorter deadlines.
